Q: I don't have an LED sign, how do I get started?

A: Buy one of these:

Betabrite Classic / Alpha
This LED sign will provide you with the classic LED colors of red, green, yellow, and some others. The Betabrite LED sign typically comes with 32K of memory which provides enough room for a few large news feeds. It is connected to your computer with a serial cable. kitchi will work with multiple serial LED signs. It may be purchased from Sam's Club, industrial supply companies, and EBay.

Betabrite Prism
This is their newer, slightly more expensive (than their Betabrite) LED sign. The benefit is that it gives you thousands of color options and 512K of memory. It is connected to your computer with a USB cable. kitchi will only work with one of these per computer. (You may also connect one or more serial LED signs in addition to this USB sign). It may be purchased from Sam's Club, industrial supply companies, and EBay. Buy Now: Betabrite Prism

ProLite
This LED sign will provide you with the classic LED colors of red, green, yellow, and some others. It is connected to your computer with a serial cable. kitchi will work with multiple serial LED signs.

Software Option
kitchi can write to software LED signs (marquee / Java LED)
This is an example of the MS Marquee -- kitchi may be used to send RSS data to an MS Marquee webobject -- kitchi outputs a plain html file that may be #included within your PHP or ASP(x) code

Since most modern computers usually only have one external serial port, you may have to buy a USB-to-serial adapter to connect additional serial LED signs to your computer.
